The PSAT will be given at Dixie in October. The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a program co-sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. Taking it also gives you a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. PSAT test scores, in addition to ACT scores, are also considered for GSP (Governor's Scholars Program) applications.
The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading, math problem-solving and writing skills. You have developed these skills over many years, both in and out of school. This test doesn't require you to recall specific facts from your classes.

Typically, this test is taken by Juniors for the reasons listed above. If, however, there are sophomores who want to take the test, we will try to accommodate them. Sophomores, especially those in accelerated classes, should consider taking the PSAT to experience it prior to taking it as a junior when it involves the NMSC opportunities.
